Who We Are

Casey Family Law

We founded Casey Family Law with core values to avoid negative traumatic experiences for divorces and other family law matters. We promise to be: Responsive, Strategic, Efficient, and Compassionate.

Too frequently, the divorce process resembles a long hospital stay: endless waiting, unknown next steps, infrequent/sporadic interactions with those in charge, and always ending with an expensive bill.

Likewise, most divorces seem to shuffle from one hearing to another. Many attorneys fail to lay out next steps or an overall strategic direction. Law firms can be unresponsive and noncommunicative until a critical moment arises. And of course, fees can approach that of a major hospital stay. A divorce does not have to be like this.

Sarah D. Casey

Principal Attorney

Prior to forming Casey Family Law in 2022, Sarah exclusively practiced family law at several prominent firms in Chicago.  In recognition of Sarah’s abilities, she was named to the Super Lawyers list as Illinois’ “Rising Stars” in the area of Family Law in 2021, 2022 and 2023. This peer-nominated honor is bestowed on only a small fraction of the attorneys in the state.

As an example of her experience and skill set, in 2019 Sarah argued before the Illinois Supreme Court which is rare for a divorce attorney.  In Charles D. Yakich v. Rosemary A. Aulds, she defended the DuPage Circuit Court decision that Section 513 of the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act is unconstitutional because it denies unmarried parents equal protection of law by requiring them to contribute to their children’s higher education expenses when married parents are not required to do the same.

Sarah received her Juris Doctor degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she was named to the Dean’s List each semester and was awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in “Legal Writing II,” “Trial Advocacy I,” Trial Advocacy II,” and “Elder Law,” three prestigious accolades that only select few receive. During law school, Sarah was a Legal Writing Teaching Assistant and a law clerk at a family law firm in Chicago.

Prior to practicing law, Sarah earned her Master of Social Work degree with a specialization in Children and Families from Loyola University Chicago.  She also graduated from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.

Sarah is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association.
